What Is Aging In Place?

The phrase “aging in place” is one that is being used more and more by home health care agencies in CT to describe the patients that we provide in-home care to. What is this term and to whom does it apply?

What does aging in place mean?

As it is officially defined by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, aging in place means, “the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level”.

To whom does aging in place apply?

Adults of any age can start planning and making arrangements for the time when they are planning on aging in place. Generally speaking this type of plan starts at retirement age with things like arranging home modifications that will aide in the transition.
